Zinc reagents of benzylic chlorides are reacted with various electrophiles, such as enoates, aldehydes, acylchlorides, and arylhalides under appropriate conditions to give the corresponding alkylated products.
Note mild conditions under which benzylic chlorides are converted to their respective zinc reagents, in the presence of zinc dust and LiCl at room temperature.
