By coining the term “computational thinking,” Jeannette Wing, Head of the Computer Science Department at Carnegie Mellon, encapsulated both the answer to the question, “What is computer science?” and a viewpoint on how computer science is revolutionizing not only all the sciences, but impacting every aspect of our lives in the 21st century. “Computational thinking” provides the underpinning for our research and educational philosophy at Carnegie Mellon and is starting to frame perspectives on 21st century thinking emerging in anthologies and courses nationally and internationally.
