Dynamic service composition in ambient intelligence environments: a multi-agent approach
Mathieu Vallée, Fano Ramparany, and Laurent Vercouter
First European Young Researcher Workshop on Service-Oriented Computing, (21 Apr 2005)
The paper introduces a Ph.D research that mixes concepts related to service oriented architectures (SOA) and multiagent systems (MAS). In the authors' approach, AmI devices expose their simple functionalities through web services, enriched by service descriptions needed for automatic discovery through UDDI. A multi-agent system is then used to coordinate these basic services into more complex, composite services needed to fulfill users' service requests. Composition based on the multi-agent paradigm allows to better ground user requirements merging requests with specific context information and service availability. The authors provide a futuristic use case scenario for better explaining their view, which shows how multi-agent service composition of AmI functionalities can allow to receive telephone calls and to re-route them to the correct device, in the desired locations, while keeping interaction with the user as low invasive as possible. No practical detail on the status of the work are provided.
