Shakir Hassan Al Said (1925-2004) was one of Iraq's most influential and prolific artists. A theorist, teacher and historian, he personified a remarkable synthesis of modernity, Islam and Arabness.

Banipal is an independent literary magazine publishing contemporary authors and poets from all over the Arab world in English translation, and was founded in 1998 by Margaret Obank and Iraqi author Samuel Shimon. The three issues a year present established and new Arab authors and poets in English for the first time through poems, short stories or excerpts from novels, and include author interviews, profiles and book reviews. Each issue is well illustrated with author photographs with the full colour covers featuring prominent Arab artists.

Darat al Funun is a home for the Arts and the artists of Jordan and the Arab world. Overlooking the heart of Amman, Darat al Funun is housed in three traditional buildings of the 1920s, alongside the archaeological remains of a six century Byzantine church built over a Roman Temple, all restored for use. With its Arts, Architecture, Archaeology, Darat al Funun speaks of an enduring ancient legacy of urbanism, architecture and cultural identity that is now being enriched by a modern flowering of the visual arts. While the thrust of its programs maintains a constant focus on the visual arts, the Darat al Funun strives to be a haven for all the arts, where the public may experience the visual arts in harmony with other forms of self-expression.

Makan is a cultural space founded in the spring of 2003. Makan provides a dynamic space for expression and interaction amongst young emerging artists in Jordan. It gives them opportunity to network and exchange dreams and ideas hoping that would be translated into art projects and performances in and outside of Makan.
