Geron Corp's news statement on their new cancer vaccine. The vaccine works by using telomerase to teach the immune system to target cancer cells. This immunotheraputic approach has done surprisingly well dispite the obvious challenges. This approach also handles the problem that simply inhibiting telomerase still takes months to get the cancer to shrink to a non-lethal size, which most patients don't have time for. If that approach would be combined with an early telomerase diagnostic test, then it might work out well.
