WHO WE ARE Because many people underestimate the developmental, emotional, psychological, and spiritual injuries that can result when people experience or witness traumatic events, Sidran Traumatic Stress Institute, Inc. (formerly Foundation) is: • a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization of international scope that • helps people understand, recover from, and treat: • traumatic stress (including PTSD) • dissociative disorders, and • co-occurring issues, such as addictions, self injury, and suicidality. We develop and deliver: • educational programming • resources for treatment, support, and self-help • trauma-informed community and professional collaboration projects and • publications about trauma and recovery Sidran’s constituency is made up of any individuals or organizations touched by the effects of trauma, including • adults, adolescents, and children who have experienced or witnessed traumatic events, • supportive friends and family members, • health, mental health, crisis, public safety, and victims services professionals • support networks, schools, faith communities, and more

The Trauma Center is a program of Justice Resource Institute (JR1), a large nonprofit organization dedicated to social justice by offering hope and promise of fulfillment to children, adults, and families who are at risk of not receiving effective services essential to their safety, progress, and/or survival. The Executive Director of the Trauma Center is Joseph Spinazzola, Ph.D., and the Medical Director and Founder of the Trauma Center is Bessel van der Kolk, MD, who is an internationally recognized leader in the field of psychological trauma. The Trauma Center provides comprehensive services to traumatized children and adults and their families at the main office in Brookline. In addition to clinical services, The Trauma Center offers training, consultation, and educational programming for post-graduate mental health professionals. Our Certificate Program in Traumatic Stress Studies has state-of-the-art seminars, lectures and supervision groups. Our Weekly Lecture Series is open to all mental health professionals. The Trauma Center Research Department is housed at our Brookline location and is also directed by Dr. van der Kolk. The Research Department conducts studies on traumatic memory and how treatment effects trauma survivors' minds, bodies, and brains. The ACE Study is an ongoing collaboration between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Kaiser Permanente. Led by Co-principal Investigators Robert F. Anda, MD, MS, and Vincent J. Felitti, MD, the ACE Study is perhaps the largest scientific research study of its kind, analyzing the relationship between multiple categories of childhood trauma (ACEs), and health and behavioral outcomes later in life.
