When used properly, blogging has more advantages than disadvantages. One fun feature provided by blog hosting services is the comment field where the readers and the author can interact with each other. The readers can exchange opinions, which can be moderated by the author. Bloggers would have to be wary of comment spam, however. These are comments that have no relevance to the author's post. Instead, they contain links to other websites.

With the millions of blogs on the Internet, getting a decent amount of blog promotion proves to be difficult for bloggers. Unless you have created your blog purely for personal consumption, you would want your message to get across to a larger audience. But, this difficulty that bloggers have experienced is somehow addressed by the advent of social bookmarking.

StumbleUpon is a unique social networking site which specializes in the identification of quality sites which may be of interest to it's users. It currently has more than 4 million users and the reason why it has a growing number of users is because of it's unique features which gives users the chance to give a certain website either a thumbs up or a thumbs down. It also allows users to find individuals who may have liked a certain website which they also happen to like. This idea is a hit because you get to meet people who more or less have the same interest as you.

This concept is still actually confusing to a lot of people, even to experts and some Internet savvy individuals, because they still cannot find a clear cut explanation on what the whole concept really is about. To give you an idea as to what it is and where it all started, the term Web 2.0 was made popular during the O'Reilly Media Web 2.0 conference way back in 2004.

For those who surf the Internet at public libraries and use different PCs to access the net, online bookmarking is recommended. Online bookmarking or what is popularly known now as social bookmarking, lets you save your bookmarks online for free. There are actually quite a number of sites that offer such services that you may find it difficult to choose which service to use. Using at least 2 online services is safe enough. This means saving all websites you want to save on the 2 different sites so that in case something wrong happens to one of them, you still have one site working to back you up.

The good thing with google is it has a search bar where you may search your bookmarks or the web for the tags that you may be looking for. But this feature is also available to other online bookmarking services so it basically is nothing that is too amazing.

I wanted to start off today by just explaining what this series of articles will be. I know that there are several articles already published on this topic. But what I wanted to do is try to make it more like a tutorial in hopes that more folks will understand the power of StumbleUpon.
