Khosrow Hassanzadeh is one of Iran's leading contemporary artists. During his artistic career his work became increasingly concerned with Islam as a factor in the interplay between East and West. This article discusses his recent series of works Terrorist to analyse the artist's efforts to simultaneously criticize the accusing gaze of the West and reclaim the right of self-representation.

The Fine Arts Library's visual collections now contain more than 150,000 photographs and slides documenting Islamic art and architecture, as well as ethnographic views that provide cultural context. The photograph collections are exceptionally strong in albumen silver prints produced by commercial retailers in the latter half of the 19th century.

Ziyarat is a London based organisation which aims to research, develop and encourage Arabic cultural production and international work related to the Arab world, in order to foster exploration about the diversity inherent in Arabic culture and to increase knowledge and understanding about it. Ziyarat aims to generate dialogue and collaboration between Arabic artists, thinkers and cultural producers and their international counterparts. Ziyarat curate, commission, produce and promote artistic production.

These series of photographs were taken at the Qalandia checkpoint. This body of work examines and captures the experience of the checkpoint which has become a hallmark of the current Israeli occupation. There are very few faces among the collection of images; rather we are invited to view a multitude of close-ups of encounters between soldiers and Palestinians wanting to cross the border.
