This article looks at the impact of the 2008 farm bill (the Food, Conservation and Energy Act) policies on biofuels on farm income. The authors find that the combined extension of the ethanol tariff and the reduction in the tax credit slightly increase ethanol producer prices and production which result in marginal increases in prices for corn and other agricultural commodities, these mandates are particularly relevant when petroleum prices are low and biofuel prices therefore tend to be lower, the ethanol tariff is likely to have a bigger impact on ethanol imports but not such a large impact on domestic ethanol producer prices and that tax credits likewise may have a bigger or smaller impact on biofuel prices and agricultural markets, depending on the price of other commodities such as petroleum.
