Letters to the Editor
Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, (18 Oct 2007)
"Letters to the Editor Published October 18, 2007 Alcohol factor? Oct. 15, 2007 To the editor: I reject the word “may.” It’s not that alcohol may be a factor. Alcohol is a factor and has been for me since three months after I was born! Alcohol was a factor in the death of my mother three months after I was born, and now is the factor in the death of my children’s grandmother Catherine Ahsoak! I am grateful with the turnout in the trial, but things today could, should and are supposed to be different! Could it be that our city officials (cops) aren’t doing that good of a job? No, we as citizens are not looking at the whole picture in front of us. We probably just see that somebody got hurt or died and think “hmm … geez at least it was nobody I know,” which does nothing at all. It’s not right that somebody is dead and the person who did it just sits there and says, “I’m sorry, I don’t remember a thing.” I guess there are people out there who don’t mind Fairbanks Correctional Center or whatever jail they end up in. Innocence is taken when somebody dumb gets behind the wheel under the influence of any drugs or alcohol. I wish they would picture themselves getting hit by a intoxicated driver! Something needs to be done. I’m 25 years old now and to this day am still reminded of my mother. It’s not right! There’s gotta be someone important in everyone’s life worth living for so they’ll want to see that person the next day! Goes both directions! You want to see them and I’m sure they want to see you. Maybe you should try picturing them gone if that’s what it takes. Kristi Titus Fairbanks" http://newsminer.com/2007/10/18/9408
