Different modes of expression of AMPA and NMDA receptors in hippocampal synapses
Yutaka Takumi et al.
Nat Neurosci 2 (7), 618-24 (Jul 1999)
This paper describes that correlation of the post-synaptic distribution pattern of AMPA and NMDA receptors with PSD size. It was found that AMPAR amount is linear to PSD area, while NMDAR amount is linear to PSD diameter. Small spines lack of AMPARs.
