Getting started with Connotea
We recommend setting up your browser for one-click access to Connotea.
- This will take one minute
- It will add a button to your toolbar as shown in the image below
- Using this button you will be able to save a reference to Connotea with one click

If you want to refer to this information again, you can find it from the Getting Started link at the bottom of every page, or via the Site Guide.
Setting up your browser for one-click use of Connotea
These instruction are for Internet Explorer. If you are using a different browser, go to the instructions for

Step 1 of 3: Checking to see if your Links toolbar is enabled
Check if you can see the Links toolbar as shown in the image below. If you can see it, go to Step 3. If you cannot see it, continue to Step 2.

In Step 2 we will make the Links Toolbar visible and move it to the position shown above

Step 2 of 3: Enabling your Links toolbar
Go to the 'View' menu at the top of your browser; select 'Toolbars' and click on 'Lock the Toolbars'. Make sure that 'Lock the Toolbars' is unchecked as shown below.

Go to the 'View' menu, select 'Toolbars' and click on 'Links'. There should be a check by 'Links', as shown below.

The Links toolbar should now be visible at the top right of your browser, as shown below. Note that the Links toolbar might appear in a slightly different position to that shown.

Now you can move the Links toolbar. Left-click and hold down on the word 'Links'. Drag the Links toolbar down. It should expand and look like this:

The next step will be creating the 'Add to Connotea' button on your toolbar.

Step 3 of 3: Creating the 'Add to Connotea' button
Now you can create the 'Add to Connotea' button on your Links toolbar. To do this, right-click on the button below.
When you right-click, a menu will appear as shown below. Choose 'Add to Favorites...'

If you see a message like the one below, you can click 'Yes'. This is safe because this link will only be used to add references to your Connotea library.

Next you should see a box like this. Click 'Create in'.

The box will expand so that it looks like this. Select 'Links' and then click 'OK'.

You're done
The top of your browser window should now look like this, with the 'Add to Connotea' button on the Links toolbar. One-click access to Connotea has now been set up.

What next?
Your browser is now set up to use Connotea. Whenever you find a reference on the Web that you want to save to your library on Connotea, you just need to click on this button. You will be able to add keywords and a description before saving it.
